The success of the joint N-Trak and N Scale Collector conventions at Chantilly convinced us that we needed to take the step to DCC and be prepared to run the RED LINE ROUTE™.  So, for our 2005 project we designed and built our first junction and link modules.  Our Junction module is a 4’ square with junction connections incorporated so the module can be used on the left hand side or the right hand side or it can be used as a normal 4’ corner module. It connects to a link module which is a standard 4’ module that has a curve off the blue line in both directions to tie in the red return line.  It can be placed on either side of the junction to make it left hand or right hand.  These modules can be used as a regular corner and POFF module anywhere in the layout if we're not linking to another club's layout.

Turnouts to the spine are controlled by Peco actuators.  Three momentary toggle switches are located at key positions on the fascia board.  This Flex-

junction design allow us to keep red line trains on our loop by simply toggling the switch, thereby allowing us to take a couple of laps on our own loop to shake down a train, pull bad order cars, etc. before heading out along the RLR.

With a 4’ square module, the area inside the blue line arc is just the right size for a baseball diamond to fit… and that’s what’s there, complete with an outfield fence plastered with advertising, a backstop, grandstands and the requisite flag pole with Old Glory flying high.  The field is to scale, with 90’ base paths and the outfield fence 300’ from home plate.  The link module is a farm scene with newly sprouted crops being pollinated by several bee hives brought in for that purpose.  These two modules had their shake-down at the 2005 GATS show in Tulsa and premiered at the OKC Train Show in December, 2005.

A companion junction module was similarly constructed in 2006 and has a football field on it.  The field is modeled to scale and has the 1950’s, “H” style goalpost.  There is a graveled parking lot with a few vintage autos and the Stars & Stripes are flying here also.  Bleachers and the scoreboard are under construction but may not show up until next year.  The link module is a skeet shooting range with six shooting bays, launch towers and all the accessories.  These modules were introduced at the 2006 OKC Train Show.

We liked our 6’ inside corner so well that we decided to build a second one of these as well.  Returning to our Historical Route 66 theme, this module replicates the famous Blue Whale that floats in an old-time swimming hole in Catoosa, OK.  The real Blue Whale is still there, on the north side of old Route 66, and kids are still swimming around and diving off of it.  The module also has a highly detailed diorama build by master modeler Don Clinton.  This module also debuted at the 2006 OKC Train Show
